Salvation: Is it free, or is it a gift plus works?

Pastor Churck Swindoll preached a marvelous sermon recently in which he said, "Salvation is a gift. It is free. You can do nothing to earn it. Period!" "Making" Jesus Lord and Savior will not achieve it. It's free. All you have to do is believe. Naturally, once we believe, we do acknowledge Him as both Lord and Savior; but acknowledging Him is not what saves us. Believing on Him does!
